The purpose of the Point-in-Time (PIT Count) is to obtain a snapshot census of people experiencing homelessness throughout Mendocino County on one night each year. The next PIT Count will be on Thursday, February 24th, 2022.

The count includes people who, on the night of the count, are:

The PIT Count is an essential element in our effort to end homelessness, as the data gathered from this census shows us so much more than how many people are homeless in Mendocino County, and we also learn more about who is homeless and why. It is an opportunity to find out the needs and barriers our unhoused community members struggle with every day, and inform homeless service planning to ensure local services are meeting real needs.

What to Expect:

Volunteers will conduct visual head count of people sleeping in places such as fields, underpasses, and parking lots as well as verbal surveys with people experiencing unsheltered homelessness.

Completion of a 2 hour training is required for all volunteers. Trainings will be accessible via Zoom and locations in Ukiah, Willits, and Fort Bragg that will be announced soon and will include information on how to engage vulnerable populations, basic information about the Unsheltered PIT Count, and how to complete surveys via a mobile app.

Much more information, FAQs, training resources, etc., will be provided at the training sessions that will be announced soon. PPE will be provided to all volunteers, including masks, gloves, and sanitizer. Thank you for your help in ensuring that every individual experiencing homelessness counts!
